Have you ever tried to grow anything?
Recently we, or should I say my wife and daughter have invested in an allotment, a very strange decision for a family who’s only experience in growing anything has been at the hands of our 10 year old daughter.
What is quite evident is that those who attempt to grow anything have to have infinite patience and infinite hope that the seeds you plant take root and grow.
It takes great patience and a huge amount of work to get any kind of results.
Do you save money by growing your own vegetables? If you add together the cost of the seeds and the price of the fertilizer and the investment in stakes, trellises, netting etc etc……. if you add that all together I suspect vegetables could be a little expensive (we will have to wait and see and debate this matter later). One thing is for sure, gardeners, no matter how many times defeated by the weather, issues with hungry birds and insects, will keep on gardening. It seems that gardeners are a hopeful group of folk.
As I have said before I do a lot of travel with my work, I read a lot of articles. Recently I saw an article where one man spoke of trying everything to grow stuff. He had attempted to grow vegetables in his yard, but they had come up hard and inedible. He then went from vegetables to fruit trees, but they sat there season after season with nothing but a few buds to show for his efforts. He had given up on the fruit and planted grass, but the trees shaded the grass too much, and it would not grow. He even tried hardy ground cover, and even the ground cover turned yellow and died. And so in a fit of disappointment, he did the only sure thing. He called in a contractor and had it all slabbed!
When we look around our allotment one thing is for sure, our soil is not as good as many around us and we are under no illusion that the crops on other plots will possibly be much better than ours, but we’ll give it a go and see what happens. Looking at the other allotment owner’s soil we are sure that they have placed a lot of time and effort into making sure that the foundations are correct to ensure a good crop.
My question to you is simple “what is the foundation of your life”
- Work
- Money
- Family life
What I can 100% guarantee, not 80% or 70% but 100% guarantee if that by building your foundation on Jesus, and by knowing him as your own personal saviour all other areas of your life will fall into place. I am not guaranteeing that you will get everything you want, but from my own experience I can tell you I have more than enough.
With Jesus as our foundation, he will then nuture us, encourage us to grow, care for us and love us, with all that in place we can only thrive and become strong Christians.
