Carols for all -
If you were one of the people who missed your annual visit to the playhouse for this
years “carols for all” you missed a real treat.
A member of the audience said to me
“I come here every year and this event really starts Christmas for me”
The band started
the concert with “shining star” while the timbrels played and all other members from
the Salvation Army entered the stage. By the end of this first piece of music we
knew we were in for an excellent performance.
The primary children brought to us the nativity story, with the inn keeper leaving
Joseph and Mary in no doubt where his stable was and some beautiful singers in the
group.
The junior band sounded great and many of the audience told me how much they
enjoyed this particular piece of music. The singing company (junior choir) sang a
variety of songs, finishing with a medley of carols, this was enjoyed by everyone,
especially the children themselves who were relieved to all reach the end together.

The senior band accompanied the carols as usual and also played pieces including Gaudete during which the timbrels played and received rapturous applause, my personal favourite was “white Christmas” as during the evening performance the band were showered with snow while playing this piece. They also played the beautiful piece of music “New born babe” and “Troika.”

The songsters (Senior choir) brought to us a variation of “Silent night” among other pieces which included “Then will the very rocks cry out,” “Mid winter” and “Sing a joyful song of Christmas” with some extra percussionists – concentrating very hard. The audience were spell bound by many of their songs and appreciated their contribution greatly.

Linked with the message brought to us by our own officers, the Sunday school children performed a very thought provoking scene – bringing in boxes labelled with “good things to think about at Christmas” e.g. Light, Love, Hope etc. and then accompanying “Millennium Prayer” in sign language.

The whole performance was enriched by contributions from “Vox Concordia.” This is
a group of eight A Cappella singers who thrilled the audience with their singing.
These people are very talented and The Salvation Army are very pleased to have close
links with them.
The whole event raised £3100 pound for the mayors charities this
year and The Salvation Army would like to thank everyone that supports this event
year by year and wish you all a very Happy Christmas.
