The band started the evening with a lively march "Salvation Song" (William Gordon,) after which they immediately changed the mood with an arrangement of "Be Still" (Keith Wilkinson) during which time Paul Robbins prayed.
During Paul's prayer we thought about Paul Finnity, Derby Central's Bass trombone player who is in hospital. The band were grateful to Ian Jeffrey (Kettering) who attended and played Bass trombone for the festival.
The band played Mozarts "Magic Flute" which has been arranged by (Michael Kenyon) followed by a Euphonium solo by Darren Willis "My Love is like a red, red Rose" (Kenneth Downie.) Darren has been with Derby Central Band only a few months and stepped in at short notice to play this solo making an excellent contribution to the mood of the evening.
Visit to Harpenden

The next two pieces in contrast were "The Fount" (A. Gullidge) and a beautiful arrangement by Paul Drury of "Such Love" (Graham Kendrick) These pieces were followed by a testimony from Emma Finnity who told us about the power of prayer in her life.
The first half of the programme then ended with "Glorifico Aeternum" (Dean Jones)
The second half of the programme reflected music from around the world reminding us that The Salvation Army is busy in so many different parts of the world.
Starting with "Island Dreams" (Martyn Scott Thomas) then a cornet solo by Jonathon Smith who got people's feet tapping to "This is My Story" (Krister Lundkvist)
The next three band features were "Deep river" (Arr. William Broiughton) "Three Kings swing" (William Himes) and "All to Jesus" (Eliv Herikstad)

This was followed by a vocal solo from Andy Ward who sang Richard Phillips arrangement of "We are the reason" (David Meece) accompanied by the band. Band Sergeant Stuart Pegg brought a reading from the bible after which the band played "The mission" (Ennio Morricone) at the end of these three items the hall was silent as people took in the beauty of the music and the words.
Throughout the evening a multi media presentation had been played to help people associate words to the music. A representative for Harpenden said how helpful this had been and thanks goes to James Milner for preparing an inspirational PowerPoint.
To complete the evening the band played "Las Lluvias Grandes" (Peter Graham) and then ended with "Jubilee" (Paul Drury)
The festival was enjoyed by both the Band and the congregation at Harpenden.
