Salvation Army Crest

Fun

What an excellent, musical extravaganza this event was. Derby Central Band opened the evening with Salvation's Song (William Gordon)

The Compare for the evening was Len Matthews who introduced us to The Grand Central Chorus. This male voice choir led by Rob Barber enthralled us with several songs including Almost Like being in Love, The Heather on the hill, I only have eyes for you, the gospel medley (How great thou art, trumpet of the Lord,) if I love again and they're all sweeties.

The men's singing, expression and obvious enjoyment of the music entertained the audience for almost half an hour.

Derby Central Band then brought a little bit of festivity to the evening with have yourself a merry little Christmas (Christopher Wormald) and Gaudette (arr. Rodney Newton)

Vox Concordia took the stage next, this fantastic Octet led by Andy Cox delighted us with Jeepers Creepers, All you gotta do is sing and putting on the ritz. They also treated us to some "special" items - a song written and performed by Graham Webb called "On and on" sung in true Jake Thackery style. (Graham uses the stage name "Fake Thackery." Susan Lee (who has connections with Derby Central) sang "When Somebody Loved me" which was taken from "Toy Story Two." Both these items brought a tear to the eye, One with laughter and one with the beauty of the song.

Derby Central Band completed the first half of the programme with a traditional Viennese Waltz "Schneewaltzer (Geoff Richards)

The Youth Of Derby Central provided drinks, ice creams and other goodies during a half time break before the band opened the second half with Three Kings Swing (William Himes)

Grand Central Chorus took the stage again to bring us more quality music with In the Summertime, Coventry Carol, Silent Night, 'Aint Misbehaving, Love Me and the World is mine, when I lift up my heart, Carousel and You'll never walk alone." We were told at the beginning of the evening about all the awards this choir has won, tonight's performance truly showed how they won those awards.

Vox Concordia brought to us a Musical Christmas Feast with Jingle bells, Silent night, and Have yourself a Merry little Christmas, the solo item this half was "Arise" sung by John Ward. The group finished their evening with "A Celtic Prayer" which had been written by Graham Webb (Fake Thackery) Vox Concordia auditioned for X factor this year but unfortunately didn't make it through. There is no accounting for taste as the audience felt their performance tonight was "truly magnificent."

Thanks was given by Graham Smith from Derby Central band (Thanking the musicians, the youth, the Compare, James Milner who worked on the lighting and sound and Alan Fox who arranged the evening. Then the band, the Choir, Vox Concordia and the audience joined together for "Joy to the World" (Richard Phillips)

The band completed the performance with a VERY quick March "Jubilee"
