Richard Scott

17th November 1981 was the saddest day in the history of Derby Central Young Peoples Band. On this day Band member Richard Scott was truly "Promoted Glory". He was only 12 years old. He endured a lifelong struggle with the debilitating illness Cystic Fibrosis with amazing patience and humour. Richard was a fantastic example to all those in the Band at that time and many others too.

God Bless him. He will never be forgotten.

The Tune "Turn Your eyes upon Jesus" was played at his Funeral and has been a part of the Young Peoples Bands repatoire ever since and will never be removed from it.

Some years ago Senior Band Colour Sergeant Bob Thomas decided that it was important that Richards example to the Band and its Members should live on and so annually "The Richard Scott Memorial Award" is presented to a member of the Band for outstanding achievements as a Member. It is not a recognition of musical achievement although sometimes it has been.
