Carols for all 2008

This year turned out to be a year of new venues for the band. For many years this Carol service has been held at Derby’s playhouse. Due to the uncertainty which has hovered over the playhouse for the past year the decision was made to hold the service, this year at Robert Ludlam Theatre (Saint Benedicts school)
The change of Venue meant that people needed to get their tickets early as the seating capacity was halved. It was fantastic to have a full house at each performance and sadly those who missed out on tickets, missed a treat.
As usual the primary children stole the show with their version of the nativity which was fantastic even though the helpers had to sort out last minute changes with an ill Joseph, missing Shepherds and those that were their getting stage nerves and needing a bathroom break.
The singing company sang some beautiful songs with one in particular featuring a solo, a trio and a verse from the very young children.
The youngsters band item was quite an event, “The twelve days of Christmas” different children playing different lines and audience participation left much to the imagination.
The songsters thrilled everyone with a new piece called “sing out” which involved many of the singers playing percussion parts (we must find out who judged the auditions!!)
The senior band accompanied the timbrels with a March called “Christmas Celebration” as well as other Christmas music including “Spirit of Christmas” and “Immanuel.”
A total of £2000.00 was presented to the Mayor which she will divide between her four chosen charities for this year.
