USA Western Territory

You may think Tuesday night is a strange night for a band festival however, the hall was packed to capacity for the visit of USA Western Territory band.

After performances at Worthing and Norwich the band came to Derby Central before moving onto Sunderland Monkwearmouth.

The band brought many blessings to people with pieces that included: “The wonder of it all,” “Amazing Grace” and “Swedish Folk song.”

There were foot tapping marches: “Wonderful day” and “Motivation” mixed in with the Major work for the band: “Purcell Variations.”

A trumpet solo by Captain Matthew Madsen and a vocal solo by Susan Pierce were particularly enjoyable.

Other pieces that the band played were: “Cossack Wedding dance,” “I’ll walk with God” and “God be with you.” There was an unusual variation on the well known piece –“Just like John” which they now call “Just like Juan.”

The evening concluded with the band playing “Stars and Stripes.”

This territorial band is made up by men and women from eight different states in America who get together three or four times a year to enjoy fellowship, fun and bring music to people.

Although the band have only been together for three and a half years they show great team spirit and produced a very enjoyable evening for us here at Derby Central.
