Derby Central band at St Martins Church, Allenton 15th October 2011
The band presented a programme of music in this lovely church. After an initial jacket swapping game for some of the bandsmen the festival started.
The audience were very appreciative of the music and many people talked to the band members at the interval and at the end of the night how much the evening had meant to them.
There were solos from Ian Hammond (What a Friend – Cornet) Martyn Page (We’ll all shout Hallelujah – Euphonium) and Paul Robins (We are the reason – vocal)
We listened to a testimony from our newest band member – David Simpson and a very thought provoking talk from Colin Sneade.
One thing that will be remembered for some time is the ending of the band piece “Pilgrim Way” about 15 bars from the end all the lights in the church went off, the band had roughly five minutes to get their breath back while we were in darkness then just as the ladies on the horn section were about to start singing “you are the light” the fault was fixed and the band were able to play the remaining section.
This was a very enjoyable evening, the band felt very welcome and comfortable, we hope the audience found a blessing in the music.
